April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) started her musical journey at the age of 7 when she started piano and guitar classes. At the age of seven, April began taking guitar and piano classes. It sparked her interest in writing songs. When April was 14 years old, she devoted long hours creating song ideas and perfecting her music. The songwriting began along with her dad and her dad in NY and LA shortly after. April featured other topics in her track, Take my Hand. These topics were for friends that dealt with issues such as peer pressure disabilities or even teen suicidal ideas. Lockhart is also gaining a growing fan base as a lifestyle blogger and is employed by the renowned clean beauty company Ilia. It's true that she was born without a left hand, and it is what makes her different. It's not the only characteristic of her. So, Lockhart's Instagram profile doesn't shy away from her disability, but it's not focused on her disability either. It's a message. We are all more than the physical person we are. The identities we have are complex and include a myriad of dimensions. I don't want that to be the only thing that defines me. I don't wish to become a disability influencer where it's the only thing I talk about because there are so many other aspects to me. Lockhart states in video form from her house in Nashville. My daily life isn't affected by it. I live my normal daily life, and come up with my own solutions to issues. It's also part of me, so I believe it's essential to discuss. Self-acceptance is a lifelong marathon however Lockhart truly inspires me on that front. She admits that she's been through phases of her body, at times, being unsure about wearing certain types of clothing which showed off her arms. It's her choice to wear what she likes, and happily shares pictures of her in these outfits. One of the keys to self-love for her is that it's not a goal. But, this isn't common for anyone who has insecurities. It's important to have people in your life who know and appreciate your situation. They'll be the ones asking what you fret about?
